Seasonal Sundays (Week 47) Thanksgiving

It's Turkey Day minus 11 so best to get organized, yes? For a little extra inspiration, I've collected recipes for my "dream" Thanksgiving dinner, all the staples plus a few surprises.

Turnip Puff or Rutabaga Puff

A tasty purée of root vegetables, either purple-topped turnips or, as pictured here, the lovely sunny-fleshed rutabagas. It's a favorite Thanksgiving vegetable casserole from my Canadian family. Seasonal Sundays (Week 46) Thanksgiving Pies

Yeah-yeah, pie is usually served at the end of the Thanksgiving meal, yikes, just a couple of weeks away. So why kick off November with my favorite pie recipes? Well ... maybe we should all start the Turkey Day with pie. Really. Truly.

Chocolate Chili

My long-time homemade chili, meaty and full of spices and flavor and a touch of chocolate. Nothing says "welcome home" like a big pot of chili simmering on the stove but our favorite way to "slow cook" chili is in the oven. Feeding a crowd? Serve Chocolate Chili with mashed potatoes, an old Iowa farmwife technique to make meat go further when feeding hungry farmhands. Real Food, Fresh & Family-Tested. Meaty and Bright with Spices and a Touch of Chocolate. Weight Watchers Friendly. Whole30 Friendly. Low Carb. Naturally Gluten Free. High Protein. A Signature Recipe. Budget Friendly. One-Pot Meal. Great for Meal Prep. How to Feed a Crowd. Potluck & Party Friendly. Rave Reviews.

Seasonal Sundays (Week 45) Winter Squash

Hey, hey, y'all. This week's collection features my very favorite winter squash, that would be the butternut and how easy it is to slip butternut squash into main dishes. I hope you love these recipes as much as I do!

Old-Fashioned Southern Brunswick Stew is an old southern tradition to lure people to the polls. It's a simple stew, just layers of different meats and favorite southern vegetables like corn, okra and lima beans. And it's healthy too, great for parties but simple enough for family meals too. Traditional Food for Election Day in the American South. Real Food, Fresh & Flexible. Budget Friendly. One-Pot Meal. How to Feed a Crowd. Potluck & Party Friendly. High Protein.

Seasonal Sundays (Week 44) Pumpkin Heaven

This week, I've pulled together an entire patch of pumpkin recipes. (Can one ever have too many?) Here's the chance to turn your own kitchen into pumpkin heaven ...

Snickers Cookies on Sticks or NOT

When I first spied this cookie recipe, the first impression was a fun recipe for baking with leftover Halloween candy. Instead, Snickers Cookies are dreamy good, the best cookies I’ve made all year. Think “peanut butter cookie with a Snickers bar inside” or a "mini Snickers candy bar wrapped inside a chewy peanut butter cookie" but then take a bite, oh so chewy and what’s that? Oh my, it’s chocolate and caramel and nougat right inside. The cookies-on-sticks are optional, the cookies themselves essential. Creative Idea to Use Leftover Halloween Candy. Homemade Peanut Butter Cookies, Made from Scratch. Extra-Fun for Kids and Resident Cookie Monsters of All Ages. Great for Food Gifts. Easy DIY. Rave Reviews.

Seasonal Sundays (Week 43) Fall Sides

Happy Fall, Y'all! Today's recipe collection is for those of us who manage to get a main dish to the table but then feel stymied at what to serve alongside ... I hope you love this collection of side dishes, ones that really shine during these golden weeks of autumn.

Slow Cooker Sweet Potato Grits

~ or Pumpkin Grits ~ ~ or Butternut Squash Grits ~ Is mac 'n' cheese your downfall? It sure is mine. But now I've found an ally, a healthy substitute for cheesy pasta. It's a "skinny" pot of grits, conveniently cooked in the slow cooker with sweet potato (or pumpkin or butternut squash) and a little mik, with just a tablespoon of butter stirred in to finish. Good stuff this, really good stuff. Homemade Grits, Made from Scratch in a Slow Cooker. Real Food, Fresh & Family-Tested. Hearty & Filling. Budget Friendly. Great for Meal Prep. Weight Watchers Friendly. Vegetarian. Naturally Gluten Free.
