Winter Tomato Soup

One of the great pleasures of winter? Tomato soup! This recipe starts with canned tomatoes that are first roasted then slow-cooked to draw out deep, intense tomato flavor. It's the recipe to choose during cold weather and the many months when fresh tomatoes just aren't worth time or money. And my recommendation? Grab some bread and cheese too, people, because homemade tomato soup and grilled cheese are a special winter-worthy combination! Real Food, Fresh & Flexible. Weight Watchers Friendly. Not just vegan, Vegan Done Real . Great for Meal Prep.

Seasonal Sundays (Week 53) Hello, 2021

Hey, All ... only four (four!) more days and we can toss the 2020 calendars into the dust bin. Bonfire, anyone? But hey, recipes, quick-quick. First, Kitchen Parade's Best Recipe of 2020, any guesses? And then to finish out the year, I've gathered a few quick recipes ideas for you. Greens and black-eyed peas for "good fortune" in the New Year. Or how about a Cajun New Year?! Some Dessert Splurges for Small Gatherings. Plus for those of us mentally (or culinarily) preparing for the much-welcome seasonal switch, some healthy choices that bridge the gap between "December food" and "January food". C'mon in, look around. If just one recipe gets a second look (and a cook!), it'll make my day. And yours too, I'm willing to bet.

Savory Roasted Pecans

When people come here for dinner, they know to arrive hungry! To stave off hunger before we eat, I put out small dishes of nuts to nibble on while gathering in the kitchen for the first hellos and catch-up conversation. But so many "party nut" recipes are sugary. Instead, these are totally savory nuts, dark and sultry with just a touch of heat and only slightly addictive – okay that's a lie, they're totally addictive! Even at the last minute, roast some pecans in the oven for a quick appetizer or hostess gift. Fast & Easy Appetizer. Just Pecans & a Handful of Pantry Ingredients. Weeknight Easy, Weekend Special. Potluck & Party Friendly. Low Carb. Naturally Gluten Free. High Protein.

Seasonal Sundays (Week 52) Christmas 2020

Hey, I know you've got cookies in the oven so this'll be quick, a Christmas-week collection of recipes, including Unusual Choices for Christmas Meals; Inspiration for an English Christmas Dinner; a few ideas for winter fruit salads; some quick 'n' easy Fun with Kids ideas; plus the usual Trending, New, Just Updated. And a new feature that for the moment I'm calling "Made Me Think".

Finnish Glögi: Scandinavian-Style
Hot Red Wine “Mulled"' with Winter Spices

To warm your winter world, try a glass of hot red wine mulled with spices, fruit and for good luck, an almond. In Finland and Sweden, the spiced wine (mulled wine) is called glögi and vinglögg , because, I dare say, for the easy way it glug-glugs down our throats. Perhaps you're familiar with glögi's more famous cousins, the German glühwein that fuels the holiday season's Christmas markets or the Spanish iced sangria sipped during summer? Take a Moment, Take a Break. A Christmas Specialty. A Nordic Holiday Tradition. Weeknight Easy, Weekend Special. Potluck & Party Friendly.

Seasonal Sundays (Week 51) Mid December

This week's recipe collections reflect seasonal flavors of December: think gingerbread, think red and green, think holiday breakfasts. PS Is "Joy" a seasonal flavor?

Cranberry Salsa

Here tell, there's a cranberry shortage in some parts so fingers crossed everyone put aside at least one bag from Thanksgiving. Because even if it's the season's verrrry last fresh cranberries, you might want to invest them in this raw Cranberry Salsa. Because wow. It's got a Christmas salsa kind of vibe, an explosion of fresh, seasonal flavors like apple, ginger, cilantro, lime juice and just a tiny touch of jalapeño and you just might feel compelled to put it in/on/beside, well, basically everything ... Real Food, Fresh & Inventive. Budget Friendly. Weeknight Easy, Weekend Special. Great for Meal Prep. Easy DIY. Raw Food. Low Carb. Low Fat. Weight Watchers Friendly. Not just vegan, Vegan Done Real . Naturally Gluten Free.

Seasonal Sundays (Week 50) Mid December

A stocking stuffed with quick food and other ideas as the days march closer toward the holidays that December delivers, pandemic or not. Happy Hanukkah to all who celebrate!

Apple Yogurt Salad

A simple winter fruit salad, all familiar fruits, just apples, tangerines and pomegranates but in an unexpected and delightful combination with cardamom, fresh mint and a burst of orange. It's been a favorite for many years, especially for a winter brunch, Christmas morning and a light dessert during the holidays. Fresh & Seasonal. Weeknight Easy, Weekend Special. Weight Watchers Friendly. Naturally Gluten Free.
