Seasonal Sundays: Peach Season! (Week 28)

Grab a wet napkin, all, because this week's "Seasonal Seven" stand-out recipe collection will have you stocking up on summer's best peaches, at least few of which should be eaten at the kitchen sink, the better to catch those juices. How many keepers here? Every.Single.One.

Welcome to Seasonal Sundays ...

As ever, thank you for welcoming me into your InBox and RSS feed reader. It's your kitchens, your lives, I conjure while writing ...

If I hurry, this will reach most of you on Sunday. Here I am on a Monday night, still recovering from the respiratory effects of Covid: my happy place is a nap floating in the pool, not great for productivity but excellent for a good snooze.

So let's skip the chit-chat or just like that, it'll be Tuesday. Or Wednesday. Or ...

In Praise Of ...

  • ... four-day long weekends!

  • ... after a long, hot dry spell, seven inches of rain in three days (yikes) and Beryl on her way which has my sister and me giggling over, Is it Barrel? or Burril? And then laughing that it's Meryl (Marrel) Streep but it was our Auntie Meryl (Murril)

  • ... removing an ugly hydrant (for watering outside) not far from our kitchen and dining room windows especially since the replacement would have been even taller, even uglier and bright orange ... instead we've cleared that mulched area under a large maple tree that had really gotten junked up with herb pots, various plants, a wine bar to block the view of the hydrant ... and next week, it'll go back to grass ... I can already imagine a zen simplicity ... better, we hope, for the maple tree and less maintenance, for sure, than what got pulled out

The Words of Wise Women

  • "With fear for our democracy, I dissent." ~ Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor, in her scathing 29-page dissent of the Supreme Court's presidential immunity decision. "In every use of official power, the President is now a king above the law."

THE SEASONAL SEVEN:

The Best No-Recipe Recipe I Made This Week

Good Bread + Uncured Ham + Cheese + Tomato + Sandwich Pickles = Magnificent Sandwiches

It just might be all I ate for lunch and dinner three days straight!

Trader Joe's Test Kitchen

This week, I picked up a jar of Trader Joe's Corn & Chile Tomato-less Salsa, which is described as "a sweet combination of corn, red peppers, onion and a touch of heat" and served it over whipped cream cheese with corn chips on the side. A touch of heat? For sure. It was too much for us on its own but once over the cream cheese, it got gobbled up. Super easy, worth the purchase!

Or make your own? It's a lot like the very wonderful Sweet Corn Relish.
